Operational Innovation
At BOURBON, innovation is what drives progress. First and foremost it is a state of mind that is evident in areas as varied as methods, structures, systems and technologies.
Innovation is behind:
- The qualification of crews;
- Modern maintenance methods;
- The BOURBON policy aimed at constant improvement, which encourages the active participation of the crews;
- The reliability of operations, with the general use onboard of equipment redundancy and control systems;
- The originality of our sales offer, based on a homogeneous, multi-purpose, modern and scalable fleet;
- The ability to create the most suitable partnerships, financial packages and legal structures to make the most of its investments, its new hires and its international business growth.
Training
Like in aeronautics, BOURBON manages the qualification of its crews thanks to a certified process that combines knowledge acquired at school, in ongoing training, training on simulators and experience in the field.
In particular, this qualification system includes::
- Training centers with simulator in Marseilles, Singapore and Ravenna;
- Reference vessels and officers to complete apprenticeships under real conditions, thus ensuring intergenerational transfer of skills;
- Inclusion of the Sea-skills program (DNV certified): development of a skills system of reference, evaluation tools and supplemental training components.
Mass production
With its new generation fleet, BOURBON provides its customers with the most efficient technologies in terms of productivity, safety, reliability and environmental protection.
Construction by unit has long dominated the offshore sector. Through its ambitious investment policy in mass produced vessels, BOURBON encourages technology transfer from the shipyards building the largest vessels in the world.
BOURBON works closely with the best marine architects in the industry to innovate at all stages of vessel design, more specifically in hull definition, energy production, propulsion, loading systems and deck plans. 3D computer-aided design is widely used. It can optimize volumes, improve ergonomics and reduce structural weight
BOURBON Training Centers

The aim of the BOURBON Training Centers is to make certain there is a uniform training policy in every geographical area for recruitment and operations.
- BOURBON Training Center Marseilles:
A training center for anchor handling operations of oil and gas platforms and dynamic positioning on simulators. - BOURBON Training Center Manila:
A dynamic positioning training center. - BOURBON Training Center Singapore:
An AHTS operations training center on a simulator.
Bourbon Liberty
A series design for a vessel that is simple to build and operate
The series construction process significantly reduces costs and accelerates fabrication. Thus, the design was developed with an eye for simplicity in order to optimize construction as well as the maintenance and performance of the vessel in operation.
Designing vessels that are simple to operate and build, adapted to series production, by developing a methodology designed to simplify production and save time, while guaranteeing quality, reliability and ergonomics was the guiding spirit when BOURBON asked Guido Perla & Associates Inc. to create the Bourbon Liberty.
