QSMS
An integrated management system for quality and safety
BOURBON has developed a QSMS (Quality & Safety Management System) focusing on customer satisfaction which is a “model of excellence” based on the leading industrial systems, standards and practices (ISO 9001 and 14001, IMCA, IMO, OCIMF/TSMA, client systems).
QSMS involves an integrated approach of all the elements that contribute to safety, including management, skills, risks, environment, contracts, operations, emergencies, incident research and analysis, maintenance and reliability, information and documentation, and indicators. It allows a consistent methodology to be adopted, the same procedures applied worldwide, using the same documentation. Based on a process of continuing improvement, it constantly enriches the accumulated benefits of experience.
BOURBON is equipped with dedicated IT tools and systems, shared by all subsidiaries and available on board the vessels. A “Task Assistant” module is being deployed throughout the fleet and onshore. With a single database, it enables documentation and incident reports to be accessed in real time, and promotes the general implementation of preventive and corrective actions. A Maintenance module offers preventive maintenance programs for vessels.
The SeaSkill program
Skills management is essential to guarantee that the crews are qualified, trained and experienced.
BOURBON’s stringent requirements have led to the definition of high standards that guarantee the excellence of its personnel to clients. BOURBON is developing a skills management system for deck and engineer officers with DNV’s “SeaSkill” crew. This system will very shortly be integrated in BOURBON’s QSMS and HR policy.
The SeaSkill program, which will eventually involve all crews, allows a precise chart of skills to be drawn up and the necessary resources mobilized to maintain them at top level. It represents an approach that is still unique in the world of offshore oil and gas services.
The PDCA cycle
A dynamic model to continually improve the quality and safety management system:
Plan: define the objectives and the necessary processes to produce results in line with the client’s requirements and BOURBON standards
Do: implement the processes
Check: monitor and measure processes and results and compare them with the standards, objectives and requirements defined
Act: adopt actions and measures to improve process performance
